Build structure around your natural nails.

You like the look of your natural nails—but want more structure and a more polished finish.

BIAB / Builder Gel works with the natural nail as its foundation. Rather than simply adding a layer of color, builder gel is used to create a structured surface that can be shaped and refined for a balanced result.

The aim is not to make your nails look heavily built up.

It is to create considered structure, clean shape, and a finish that feels natural to you.

What is BIAB / Builder Gel?

BIAB stands for Builder in a Bottle. It is a type of builder-gel system designed for structured nail applications. Depending on the specific formulation, builder gels can be used for natural-nail overlays and, with appropriate systems, certain extension applications.

For Ishi’s BIAB / Builder Gel service, the focus is on using builder gel to structure the natural nails.

The product is carefully placed and shaped to create appropriate architecture, then cured and refined to achieve the finished look. Professional education around builder-gel application emphasizes preparation, controlled product placement, structure, curing, and finishing as connected parts of the service.

Who is it for?

BIAB / Builder Gel can be a good option if you:

  • Prefer working with your natural nails
  • Want more structure than a simple gel polish application
  • Like a clean, refined natural-nail appearance
  • Want your nails shaped and structured as part of the service
  • Prefer a structured look without automatically choosing traditional extensions

It can also be worth considering when your inspiration shows natural-looking nails with visible structure and a polished finish, rather than a noticeably extended shape.

If you’re unsure between BIAB / Builder Gel and Gel Overlay, we can help you choose.

What happens during your appointment?

01 — Your nails are assessed and prepared

The natural nails are prepared before builder gel is applied. Professional education treats preparation as an important part of creating a properly bonded and finished enhancement.

02 — Builder gel is applied

The builder gel is placed over the natural nail with attention to product control and overall structure.

03 — Structure is built and refined

The product is shaped to create an appropriate, balanced structure rather than simply adding thickness.

The goal is a surface that looks intentional from both the top and side profile.

04 — The product is cured and finished

The builder gel is cured according to the product system, then the nails are refined and finished to create the final shape and appearance.

BIAB / Builder Gel vs. Gel Overlay

These services can sound almost identical—and in the wider nail industry, there is genuine overlap between the terms.

A BIAB / Builder Gel service refers specifically to working with a builder-gel system. A Gel Overlay describes the broader concept of applying gel over the natural nail without creating extension length.

A builder gel can therefore be used to create an overlay.

Because Ishi offers these as two separate services, the simplest way to think about them is:

BIAB / Builder Gel
A service centered around a builder-gel system and structured application.

Gel Overlay
A broader natural-nail overlay service focused on adding gel structure without extension length.

If you’re choosing based on a reference photo rather than the product name, send the reference and let the desired result guide the service choice.

What makes structured nails look natural?

Structure does not have to mean thickness.

Professional builder-gel education focuses on product placement and nail architecture—including creating an appropriate apex—so the finished nail has balanced structure rather than unnecessary bulk.

That matters visually.

A structured nail should still look clean, balanced and proportionate to the natural nail, rather than like there is simply a large amount of product sitting on top.

What to know before booking

BIAB is not one universal product.

“BIAB” is a product category/term used for builder-gel systems, and formulations can differ. Some builder-gel systems are designed to be removed differently from others.

For that reason, Ishi’s page does not promise one particular removal technique for every builder-gel product.

Your existing product matters.

Please tell us if you already have product on your nails.

If existing product needs to be removed before your BIAB / Builder Gel service, the necessary Gel Removal is already included in the ₱899.00 service price.

You do not add the separate ₱499.00 Gel Removal fee.

BIAB does not automatically mean extensions.

Builder gel can be used in different applications, but the service described here is centered on structured natural nails. If the result you want requires substantial additional length, Nail Extensions may be the more appropriate service.

More product is not necessarily better.

The objective is appropriate structure—not maximum thickness. Product amount and shape should work with the natural nail and the intended finished result.

Frequently asked questions

What does BIAB stand for?

BIAB stands for Builder in a Bottle. It is a term used for builder-gel systems designed for structured nail applications.

Is BIAB the same as builder gel?

BIAB is a term used for a type of builder-gel system, while “builder gel” is the broader category. The exact formulation and properties can vary between products.

Does BIAB make my natural nails stronger?

Builder gel creates a more structured nail while the product is applied. It is more accurate to describe this as added structure and support from the applied product than to promise that the natural nail itself becomes permanently stronger or healthier.

Does BIAB add length?

Not necessarily.

BIAB / builder gel can be used for natural-nail applications, while some builder-gel systems can also be used in extension work. Ishi’s BIAB / Builder Gel service is positioned around structured natural nails. If you specifically want additional length, see Nail Extensions.

Will BIAB look bulky?

It shouldn’t need to be unnecessarily thick.

The structure should be considered in relation to the nail’s length and shape. Professional education emphasizes appropriate architecture and product control rather than simply adding more product.

Can I get nail art with BIAB / Builder Gel?

If you want additional nail art, Nail Art Add-On is available as a separate service.

Can you remove my existing BIAB before applying a new set?

If existing product needs to be removed before your new BIAB / Builder Gel service, the necessary Gel Removal is included in the ₱899.00 service price.

Please disclose existing product when booking so it can be considered before the appointment.

What if my existing builder gel is from another salon?

That’s okay. Let us know when booking.

Different builder-gel systems can have different properties and removal requirements, so the existing product should be considered before the new service is performed.

How long does BIAB / Builder Gel take?

Ishi’s listed appointment duration is 1–3 hours.

The actual time can vary depending on the starting condition of the nails, existing product, and the work required.

Should I choose BIAB or Nail Extensions?

Think about the result you want.

If you like your natural length and want a more structured finish, BIAB / Builder Gel may be the direction to consider.

If the design or length you want requires additional length beyond your natural nails, Nail Extensions may be more appropriate.

If you’re unsure, you can ask us before booking.
